MOLYKOTE Z-POWDER

Main features

  • 98% MoS2 Solid Lubricant
  • 185 to 400 deg C Service Range
  • 0.048 Coefficient of Friction

Product Description

MOLYKOTE® Z Powder is a charcoal-gray to black, free-flowing molybdenum disulfide solid lubricant for metallic contacts and lubricant-modified materials. It can be dry-burnished onto clean metal surfaces or incorporated into self-lubricating plastics, elastomers, sintered-metal parts, metalworking compounds, and brake-lining formulations. The powder is suited to heavy-load, slow-speed, press-fit, run-in, dusty, and temperature-extreme applications. With 98% typical MoS2 purity, a service-temperature range of −185°C to 400°C in atmosphere, and capability up to 1,100°C in vacuum, it supports lubrication where conventional liquid or grease films may be unsuitable.

Key features

  • High-purity solid lubricant: Contains a typical 98% molybdenum disulfide content.
  • Broad temperature capability: Supports service from −185°C to 400°C in atmosphere and up to 1,100°C in vacuum.
  • High load-carrying performance: Provides a typical Almen-Wieland OK load greater than 20,000 N.
  • Low-friction behavior: Provides a typical press-fit coefficient of friction of 0.048 under the stated test method.
  • Flexible use: Can be dry-burnished onto metal or added to plastics, elastomers, sintered metals, and lubricant formulations.
  • Extreme-environment suitability: Supports heavy-load, slow-speed, dusty, run-in, and press-fit applications.

Applications / Suitable for

  • Dry-burnished lubricating films on metallic contacts
  • Self-lubricating plastics and elastomers
  • Sintered-metal components
  • Metalworking compounds and brake-lining formulations
  • Press-fits and assembly run-in
  • Heavy-load, slow-speed, dusty, vacuum, and temperature-extreme environments

Specific Gravity
Specific gravity (SG) is the ratio of the density of a substance to the density of a reference substance; equivalently, it is the ratio of the mass of a substance to the mass of a reference substance for the same given volume. For liquids, the reference substance is almost always water (1), while for gases, it is air (1.18) at room temperature. Specific gravity is unitless.
