ARATHANE 7762-1

Main features

  • Controlled 5 mil Bondline
  • Two-Hour Working Life
  • Automated Non-Slump Dispensing

Product Description

ARATHANE 7762-1 Thermal Transfer Adhesive is a pink, one-component polyurethane paste for thermally conductive attachment of components on printed wiring boards. A controlled 5 mil bondline supports repeatable assembly of flat packs, PLCCs, and other devices where adhesive thickness affects placement and heat transfer. Its thixotropic, non-slump consistency enables automatic dispensing, while a working life of at least two hours at 23 deg C supports production use. After cure, the adhesive provides 0.80 W/m-K thermal conductivity, 600 to 660 V/mil dielectric strength, and substrate-specific lap-shear performance. The 100% solids, solvent-free formulation also supports bonding, filleting, and component protection.

Key Features

  • Controlled 5 mil bondline: Supports repeatable component placement and adhesive thickness.
  • Two-hour working life: Provides at least two hours of working time at 23 deg C.
  • Automated non-slump dispensing: Thixotropic rheology supports controlled, reduced-handling application.

Applications

Bonding, filleting, and protection of flat packs, PLCCs, and other components on printed wiring boards.

General Properties

pink paste
Density (g)
1.9-2.3 g/cm3
Pot Life
Pot life is the amount of time it takes for the viscosity of a material to double (or quadruple for lower viscosity materials) in room temperature after a material is mixed. It is closely related to work life but it is not application dependent, less precise and more of a general indication of how fast a system is going to cure.

Physical Properties
Viscosity
Viscosity is a measurement of a fluid’s resistance to flow. Viscosity is commonly measured in centiPoise (cP). One cP is defined as the viscosity of water and all other viscosities are derived from this base. MPa is another common unit with a 1:1 conversion to cP. A product like honey would have a much higher viscosity -around 10,000 cPs- compared to water. As a result, honey would flow much slower out of a tipped glass than water would. The viscosity of a material can be decreased with an increase in temperature in order to better suit an application
300,000 - 600,000 mPa.s
Thermal Properties
Flash Point
The flashpoint of a solvent is the lowest possible temperature at which it can vaporize to form an ignitable vapor. Flashpoint is often confused with “autoignition temperature”, which is the temperature at which a solvent ignites without an ignition source.
94 °C
Glass Transition Temperature (Tg)
The glass transition temperature for organic adhesives is a temperature region where the polymers change from glassy and brittle to soft and rubbery. Increasing the temperature further continues the softening process as the viscosity drops too. Temperatures between the glass transition temperature and below the decomposition point of the adhesive are the best region for bonding. The glass-transition temperature Tg of a material characterizes the range of temperatures over which this glass transition occurs.

Operating Temperature

Thermal Conductivity
Thermal conductivity describes the ability of a material to conduct heat. It is required by power packages in order to dissipate heat and maintain stable electrical performance. Thermal conductivity units are [W/(m K)] in the SI system and [Btu/(hr ft °F)] in the Imperial system.
